This group started after I realized that all the popular business and self help books are shallow and repetitive and the biggest impact they are designed to create is in the bank account of the author and I turned to real books. I found myself enjoying all these long, dense, often sad, and super intense books mostly about philosophy and meaning and culture and I wanted to find people who also like them so I can share truly honest and intellectually demanding conversations with friends.
The group is a rotating cast of semi-regulars with new people joining regularly. It’s fun, welcoming, it’s pretty low structure, the books are always very thought provoking and we make sure everyone gets time to talk, and we like to shit talk each other (well, I do).
